Hello,

I saw the outdoor openGarden kit that says that the nodes communicate with the gateway via wifi, 3g or GPRS, however in the kit I don´t see the hardware responsible for the communication part. Is it included in the Kit or not?does anyone know?

Hello joaonfps

the blog says "The nodes send periodically the information to the Gateway that uploads the data to a web server by using any of the available wireless interfaces (WiFi, GPRS, 3G)." and this may have lead you to confusion.

First, the nodes send the info to the gateway creating a Radio Frequency network with star topology and ASK modulation (Amplitude-shift keying) at 433MHz. You can find the hardware to do this (RF transceivers) in the nodes and in the gateway.

You can send the info with the gateway to a server via wifi, 3g or GPRS if you buy the necessary shields, but they are not included in the kit.

For example, here in step 8:

you can read that if you want to send data with wifi you must buy a wifi module like this:

I got the wifi shield and now I cannot determine how they get the communication to work with a hosted server outside the firewall.

Why do they not need to use and intermediate server like YALER.NET ?

I agree The instructions from cookinghacks is extremely confusing.
Did you ever make this work?
