The board comes pre-loaded with the SparkFun USB to Serial COM Port firmware. When the board plugs into a USB port, Windows will ask for a driver, point to the driver .inf file found here. The board should now enumerate as a 'SparkFun COM Port' and act the same as the SparkFun FTDI Basic. In other words, you can use it as a USB to serial bridge or you can use it to load code with Arduino. In addition, the pinout on the end of the board is the same as the FTDI Basic, which means you can plug it directly into boards like the Arduino Pro.
In addition to the USB to serial firmware, the board also has Atmel's DFU bootloader installed. For information on how to use the bootloader, see the readme file here. You will need to first install Atmel's FLIP software. The bootloader allows you to load your code over USB. See the LUFA project for more example projects.
There is also a selectable 3.3V/5V jumper to set the logic level and VCC voltage.
Note: If using this board to load code with the Arduino IDE, be sure to select the 'Arduino Pro (5V, 16MHz) w/ATmega328' as the device. If using the DFU bootloader with Atmel's FLIP software, be sure to select the AT90USB82 as the device in FLIP.

The marsupial naming convention is what happens when you let Engineers into a Marketing meeting. They looked so happy, we just couldn't tell them no. Diprotodon is the board with USB serial, charging, SMD proto, and PTH proto.
This is a project board specially designed to fit the Sparkfun Enclosures. The board provides the user with 3.3V and 5V regulated rails from a single Lithium Polymer battery. USB serial communication is also on-board with an FTDI FT232 USB chip, with selectable 3.3V or 5V logic. Arduino Pro 328 - 5V/16MHz

It's blue! It's skinny! It's the Arduino Pro! SparkFun's minimal design approach to Arduino. This is a 5V Arduino running the 16MHz bootloader (select 'Arduino Duemilanove w/ 328' within the Arduino software). The power switch was moved to the side of the board (good idea Limor!) to allow control when a shield is attached.
Please note: The right-angle power switch is fragile. We're working on making the switch stronger. For now, please be gentle.
Arduino Pro does not come with connectors populated so that you can solder in any connector or wire with any orientation you need. We recommend first time Arduino users start with the Duemilanove. It's a great board that will get you up and running quickly. The Arduino Pro series is meant for advanced users that understand the limitations of system voltage (5V), lack of connectors, and USB off board.
We wanted Arduino Pro to be low profile. The DC power jack footprint is available, but not populated. We recommend running the board with a LiPo battery for better portability. You will need to use a 5v step up or DC to DC converter to get 5V from a 3.7V LiPo battery, see the related items below.
We really wanted to minimize the cost of an Arduino. The Arduino Pro is like the Arduino Duemilanove (same pin out) but to keep the cost low, we used all SMD components, made it two layer, etc. This board connects directly to the FTDI Basic Breakout board and supports auto-reset. The Arduino Pro also works with the FTDI cable but the FTDI cable does not bring out the DTR pin so the auto-reset feature will not work.

The AVR Stick is a simple data logging device that instantiates itself as an HID keyboard and reports the voltages, along with a 'timestamp,' from two pins on an ATtiny85. The device uses open source firmware availabe from Objective Development (http://www.obdev.at/vusb/) called V-USB to implement the USB 1.1 standard. The code that runs the application was based on the EasyLogger example application from Objective development.
The default firmware runs simply enough: plug it in to a USB port on your computer, after the computer recognizes the device as a keyboard it will automatically start reporting the voltages. To get a series of measurements, open up a text or spreadsheet editor and plug the AVR stick in. The AVR Stick will automatically start inputting the voltage values to whatever program is active on the computer. The ADC is configured to use a 2.56V reference voltage, so don't try measuring anything higher than that without modifying the code!

Dimensions: 2x1.6" (50x40 mm) + 8" (20 cm) cableIn general, LPC21xx are very new parts. And for some unknown reason, Philips doesn't disclose how to program LPC21xx Flash via JTAG. This has delayed the development of third party IDEs. Perhaps Philips is having problems with the Flash programming and is going to change the protocol in future. This is currently why they force end users to use their bootloader IAP protocol. The only vendor so far to work around this is Rowley. They first load in RAM small own bootloader which then receives data from the JTAG interface and feeds the packets into IAP to write to Flash segments. This is current the easiest to use product for the LPC21xx parts.
- Jim Lynch's tutorial for setting up the free GCC/GNU tool chain. The example software is available here.
- GCC C compiler from Macraigor Systems. Works smoothly with ARM-JTAG but can't program Flash and user can compile debug programs in RAM then re-build for Flash and use Philips' RS232 bootloader.
- GNUARM another GCC toolchain from Arius.
- CrossWork for ARM (so far most recommended by us) C compiler and debuger from Rowley Associates, this is the easiest to use package we have tested, works smoothly with ARM-JTAG and programs both Flash and RAM on LPC21xx
- EWARM C compiler and debugger (free for assembly language, 16K limit for C) from IAR Systems. Can't program LPC21xx Flash, user can debug and program only in RAM, then re-build project and use Philips' ISP utility to load the program through RS232 bootloader. C-SPY driver for ARM-JTAG have some glitches on newer and faster computers and does several crashes before connect to target. It works fine on older and slower computers though. According to IAR, they are going to fix this to the end of February 2004.
- SwiftX software development system for the ARM family works with the ARM-JTAG for live interactive debugging of the Atmel AT91 ARM core family (using Atmel's EB40, EB40A, etc. development boards). Port for the ST ARM parts coming soon.

This rugged wheel is designed to fit securely on the output shafts of the micro and mini metal geramotors. These gearmotors should be mounted onto the side of the hub with the protruding teeth. The output shaft will slide into the socket easily at first but will achieve a snug fit when pressed through to the other edge of the hub.
The output shafts on the Solarbotics metal gear motors will also fit these wheels, but because they are shorter they will have to be mounted onto the other side of the wheel where the fit is tighter.

Fuse 5mm 250V 200mA

This is a glass ferrule type fuse. It fits great with our 5mm fuse clips. The fuse is rated for 250VAC, up to 200mA. Fuses are pretty simple, if more than 200mA pass through the fuse, the small filament inside the fuse heats up and breaks (like a light bulb burning out). The circuit is then broken and hopefully your circuit is saved from molten destruction.
For smaller loads, you may want to checkout a PTC (aka resettable fuse) listed below. They handle less current (500mA) but can be set and reset many times without doing harm to your system.
This is a perfect replacement fuse in case you blow the fuse in your SparkFun digital multimeter. Not sure how to replace the fuse? Checkout our How to use a multimeter tutorial.

These circular LED displays are a lot of fun. Essentially, these are what you would get if you could 'wrap' one of our LED bargraphs around a circle. This breakout board gives you a pretty slick interface for rotary input. Since rotary encoders turn continuously it can be difficult to imagine where in your range of values you might be at any given time. This board uses two 8-bit shift registers to control a circular LED bargraph which can be used to indicate the virtual position of a rotary encoder. The footprint for the encoder matches up with our illuminated rotary encoders for optimum 'blinky-ness'. The shift register inputs and rotary encoder lines are all broken out to standard 0.1" headers.
Note: This is the breakout board only, you will need to populate your own rotary encoder and circular LED bargraph. Both parts can be found in the related items below.

This custom-designed plastic wheel has a rubber tire measuring 1.65" (42 mm) in diameter and is designed to fit the output shafts on our mini metal gearmotors as well as the Solarbotics metal gear motors. Teeth on the hub optionally allow a reflectance sensor to be used for encoder feedback.
This rugged wheel is designed to fit securely on the output shafts of the micro metal geramotors. These gearmotors should be mounted onto the side of the hub with the protruding teeth. The output shaft will slide into the socket easily at first but will achieve a snug fit when pressed through to the other edge of the hub.
The output shafts on the Solarbotics metal gear motors will also fit these wheels, but because they are shorter they will have to be mounted onto the other side of the wheel where the fit is tighter.
The Micro Metal Gearmotor Bracket Extended is specifically designed to work with this wheel. Please note that the non-extended version of our mounting bracket will not work well with this wheel.

We've gotten a big response (see comments and forum posts below) from Mac and Linux users having problems. We use this programmer extensively on a Windows box and love it.
However, this is a low-cost programmer designed for those on a tight budget. For out-of-the-box compatibility with other operating systems and machines, checkout the AVR ISP2 USB programmer from Digikey.
This programmer works really well for ATmega168 and ATmega328 and should work with all the AVR micros supported by AVRDUDE. We've played a bit with the ATtinys but we cannot guarantee that this board will be compatible with anything but ATmega168/328.
This board is buffered and power protected so that you can do some really evil things to the programmer without killing it. It is fast! Comparable speed to the AVR ISP2 USB programmer from Digikey. One of the greatest features of this board is the ability to power the target (up to 500mA) from the programmer.
To use this programmer, attach to a Windows machine and install the drivers listed below. Open a command prompt. Assuming WinAVR (and therefore AVRDUDE) have been installed, type:

The M74HC238 is a high speed CMOS 3 to 8 line decoder. There are three binary select inputs (A, B, and C) which determine which one of the eight outputs (Y0-Y7) will go high. The SN74HC165N is a neat little IC that will take an input of up to 8 parallel lines and produce a single, serial output. You can even daisychain 2+ together to add even more parallel lines. It's a great way to increase the number of inputs on a microcontroller.
This chip works with a voltage supply anywhere in the range of 2-6VDC, and at clock frequencies of up to 29MHz (@6VDC).

Yes, you really can solder anything, and solder wick is a large part of the process. TechSpray makes a very good product. This is what we use in SparkFun production. We've tried the cheaper wick and it just doesn't work.
This wick is 0.055" (size #2) wide and 25ft long. As you use it, the bits of wick can't be reused but 25ft should last you a year or more.

We provide a simple example VB program that demonstrates how to initialize the receiver to listen for all foot pods in range and display the raw data including foot pod IDs. Any receiver can hear any foot pod - they don't have to be mated in any way.
